Welcome back to The Shopify Ops. It's been a few weeks since our last issue — a lot has happened.
Today's issue covers one of the most consistent margin leaks we see across Shopify stores at every revenue level — app stack bloat. Plus a major update on a tool we built specifically for you.
What We've Been Building
Since our last issue we launched ShopifyProfit.ai — a free margin leak analyzer built specifically for Shopify operators.
Enter your store's key financials and it calculates your true profit margin across four levels and identifies your top margin leaks ranked by monthly dollar impact. Under 2 minutes. Completely free.
This Week's Insight: The $400/Month You're Paying For Nothing
The average Shopify store doing $500k or more runs 12-18 apps. Most were installed for a good reason. Most are still billing whether actively used or not.
The patterns that drive most bloat:
Duplicated functionality — running both Klaviyo and Privy for email, or both Yotpo and Loox for reviews
Agency leftovers — apps installed for a specific project and never removed after the engagement ended
Trial-to-paid drift — free trials converting to paid automatically on a date nobody was watching
A 2-3 hour audit typically recovers $200-$600 in monthly margin. That's $2,400-$7,200 per year back in your pocket.
This Week's Quick Win
Go to Shopify Admin → Settings → Billing → Bills and export your last 3 months of billing statements. Cross-reference every app charge against your installed apps list. You will almost certainly find at least one charge for an app that isn't actively installed.
Five minutes. Real money back.
